Coach Tyrone Q. Dixon, born and raised in Aliquippa, PA, is a 25 + year veteran football coach having coached on all levels of football. Dixon grew up playing football in a neighborhood community Aliquippa (Plan 11) where he first developed a love for the game. He and his family moved to Center Township and became one of the star athletes for the Center Trojans in both Junior and Senior High School. He graduated from Center High School in 1982 where he was a four year letterman at Defensive Back and received a football scholarship to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
In 1986, Dixon received his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Media with a minor in Theatre Arts, and in 1987, he earned his Master’s Degree in Sports Management. With the encouragement of his collegiate head coach, Frank Cignetti, and advice from his mentor, Aliquippa native and Veteran NFL coach Richard Mann, Dixon decided to pursue a career in coaching.
Coach Dixon’s coaching career began at his alma mater, Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1986. 1990, he served as assistant Wide Receivers Coach and Special Teams Coord. at the University of Akron. He went on to coach Wide Receivers at Temple University and James Madison. He would coach two stints at the University of Houston from 1994 -96, 98 with a break in between to serve as Wide Receivers Coach for the San Diego Chargers in 1997. From there, he continued his coaching career at the University of Cincinnati where he served as assistant Head Coach and worked on the same staff as Mike Tomlin, our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers' Head Coach. He would finish his collegiate coaching career at the University of Kansas, IUP and Geneva College. Throughout his career, Dixon has worked with the league's Minority Coaching Fellowship Program with seven different NFL teams including Tampa Bay Bucs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns.
Currently, Coach Dixon enjoys coaching across the country as part of the staff for USA camps, speaking at coaching clinics and being a volunteer youth football coach for the Central Valley L'il Warriors as well as teaching school during the day!
He and his wife, D'Adria put their efforts into the Homeboys Foundation and its football camps working to find ways to expand and improve their program.
